EXODUS

We have seen some documentaries that simply confound the story of Exodus. "Scholars" go about trying to explain or in some cases explain away the miracles described in the book of Exodus. In an effort to defend and promote the true story of the Exodus crossing we have decided to put together this simple web page.

During our research of the point where the Hebrews crossed the Red Sea (Hebrew: Yam Suph), we found that there were no maps either in any of our Bibles or available from other sources that actually showed the Hebrews crossing the water. Rather all the maps showed the Hebrews traveling north of the Gulf of Aqaba following the trade routes despite the fact that in Exodus 13:17 expresses that the LORD did not want the children of Israel to take that route because the philistines were in that area and the Israelis may run from the threat of war:

Exodus
13:17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:

Exodus
14:9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.

Aerial photographs of the gorge (Baal-Zephon) that the Hebrews followed to the staging area where they camped just prior to the crossing the Gulf of Aqaba (Red Sea).

These canyon walls (Baal-Zephon) are up to 2000 feet high. We believe that the part of this canyon/gorge that is off picture (bottom) is the area called Pi-hahiroth (mouth of the gorges).

Exodus
14:21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

14:22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Although the image below (left) shows a nice little path crossing the 8 mile wide parting, according to our research materials, the area of the crossing shown below was up to 50 feet deep thus the description of "the depths" in Exodus 15:8.

Here is a view of the route that the Hebrews actually crossed the Red Sea (Gulf of Aqaba).

This is a graphic illustration if what the crossing may have looked like.

"And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea". Exodus 15:8

Exodus
14:23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

14:24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,

14:25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.

14:26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

14:27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

14:28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

Exodus
15:4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.

15:5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.

15:6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

15:7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

15:8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed (frozen on either side) in the heart of the sea.

Map of the Exodus crossing

We have been unable to find any maps of the Exodus that actually show the Hebrews crossing any water. All of the maps that we looked at show the Hebrews taking the trade route used for commerce in those days.

It is true that Moses took the trade route to Midian when he was 40 years old after he killed the Egyptian slave master, but the Biblical texts are clear that when he lead the children of Israel to Mount Sinai that God parted the Red Sea. This map reflects the research that was done by Dr. Lennart Moller when he proved (in our opinion) that the crossing took place at the Gulf of Aqaba as shown above.

believed to be a coral encrusted chariot wheel Here is a chariot wheel that is in excellent preservation. The wood rotted away long ago but the gold-silver plating that once covered the wheel is still in tact. It would be destroyed if someone would try to move the wheel.

The only time in the history of Egypt that chariots used both four and six spoke chariot wheels was during the 18th dynasty.

These mushroom shaped formations are common in the Red Sea between Egypt and the other side. These are barnacle covered chariot wheels, see the image on the right is a superimposed image.

RED SEA (Yam Suph)

Hebrew: Sea of Suph (seaweed; like wool, as the Arabic means: Gesenius). The Egyptians called it the Sea of Punt (Arabia). Called red probably from the color of the weed, and the red coral and sandstone, not from Edom (red) which touched it only at Elath; nor from Himyerites (hamar, "red" in Arabic; the Phoenicians too are thought to mean red men, and to have come from the Red Sea), as their connection with it was hardly so dose and so early as to have given the name. An ancient canal, begun by Sesostris, continued by Darius Hystaspes and Ptolemy Philadelphus, joined the Nile to it.
